For those wishing to experience Tasmania’s traditional highland lake fishing, we recommend you come with us to visit the famous Penstock Lagoon, Little Pine Lagoon, Augusta Lake, and many other clear water lakes and tarns to enjoy challenging but rewarding sight fishing to wild Tasmanian brown trout in the elements of our wilderness areas. Expect to fish to trout in the 2 to 4-pound range and you will need your “A game” for sure. Best suited to experienced anglers or those wishing to challenge their skill level.

Currawong Lakes is a high-quality Private fishery located approximately 1.5 hours drive from Launceston and boasts 3 beautiful lakes with wild brown trout bred on location in their spawning stream plus a few rainbow trout for variety. Set amongst beautiful countryside you will see plenty of deer and maybe the pair of sea eagles that nest nearby as well as abundant Tasmanian wildlife. Trout sizes range from 2 pounds to 6 pounds with a few rumored to be substantially bigger. With exclusive access, it’s the best way for visiting anglers to experience Tasmania’s countryside with a high chance of catching good-sized, quality trout in secluded locations. Most suited to anglers on a short visit, anglers new to fly fishing, or those that wish for guaranteed seclusion.

Tour Information: Exact locations are chosen on the day of the tour to ensure environmental and climatic conditions are taken into account for that particular day, ensuring the best experience possible. We are predominately a shore-based guiding service that specialises in stalking trout and sight fishing to our favored Wild Brown Trout. We do, however, work closely with other boating guides and can arrange guided fly fishing tours from fully registered boats with quality registered guides on request. We encourage catch and release fishing to our valued clients and guests.

Tours Include: Coaching, fish spotting, and support whilst guiding our valued clients. Transfers from local accommodation, fly fishing rods, reels, and all consumables, waders, and boots as well as lunch, drinks, and snacks for full-day tours and drinks and snacks for half-day tours.

Please Bring: Comfortable outdoor clothing to suit warm, cold, and wet weather conditions as well as a brim hat or cap. We can provide polarised sunglasses and sunscreen to all clients. Also helps to bring your sense of adventure.

Advise Us: Of any medical conditions or allergies and we will cater to individual requirements. We will also need to be informed of any contact risks involving Covid-19. We are First Aid trained and carry a full kit at all times as the safety of our clients, ourselves, and the environment are paramount to us.

Walk the Wilds – Tasmania Fly Fishing tours: Only for the fit, experienced and adventurous fly fishing anglers who wish to start very early, walk for hours to remote locations and fish hard to wild brown trout in gin clear waters and then walk out again at the end of the day, taking approximately up to 12 hours.

Twig Water – Tasmania Fly fishing Tours: For those who like to fish to wild trout in tiny streams with maximum sight fishing opportunities. Twig Water Fishing is a favourite past time to many of us fly fishing anglers and we are no exception. Tours run for approximately 8 to 10 hours.
